Description
The premises of D L Lewis Ltd, Chemist, located at 36 Haven Green, is a shopfront dating from around 1900, situated within a three-storey, two-bay terrace house constructed of red brick with stucco reveals and window heads. The building features a brick moulded cornice and a coped parapet, which is flanked by pedimented brackets. The shopfront is framed by pilasters that have foliate capitals and are topped with pedimented brackets. There is a dentil fascia cornice with a shop blind. The shopfront includes recessed entrances on the left, a canted entrance to the shop on the right, and access to the upper floors on the left, all beneath a barred fanlight. The shop window is set on a granite plinth and has a central timber arch with sidelights, complemented by good brass lettering. The pilaster is panelled timber with small Corinthian capitals, and the glazing bars are patterned in the spandrels and over the sidelights.
Inside, the shop retains largely intact fittings from around 1900, including brass inlaid lettering in the doorway. The listing includes both the shopfront and the interior.
