Description
This is an 1895 cast-iron lamp standard situated at the junction of Woodville Road and Aston Road. The standard features a square base dated 1895 and inscribed 'L E B' (London Electricity Board) and 'By Callendar and Co Ltd, London'. The base includes shafted angles and panels containing the inscriptions on each face, a simple acanthus frieze, and capitals with an ogee base having scrolled angles. The standard now supports four modern lamps mounted on semi-circular brackets, which are themselves supported by wrought-iron scrolls. It's considered a very early electric light standard, demonstrating group value in its historical context.
