Description

The lamp standard at the junction of Mount Park Road and Park Hill dates from 1895 and is made of cast iron. It features a square base that is inscribed with 'L E B' (London Electricity Board) and 'By Callender Co Ltd, London'. The base has shafted angles and panels, with inscriptions on each face, a simple acanthus frieze, and capitals that lead to an ogee standard plinth with scrolled angles. The standard is topped with four modern lamps mounted on semi-circular brackets supported by wrought iron scrolls. This structure is recognized as a very early electric light standard.
