Description

A group of three cottages, numbers 33, 35, and 37, located on Mount Avenue, dates from the early 19th century. Number 33 is detached, while numbers 35 and 37 are semi-detached. The cottages are constructed of yellow stock brick and have slated, hipped roofs. They are two storeys in height. Number 33 has a central entrance with a hood supported by cast iron brackets and panelled double doors with an overlight. Flanking the ground floor are French windows with painted gauged brick heads. The first-floor windows are four-pane sashes, also with painted gauged brick heads. A cast and wrought iron verandah is located on the rear façade. The interior of number 33 retains original features, including a marble chimneypiece and grate and plasterwork ceiling bands. Numbers 35 and 37 are in a similar style. Number 35 features a round-arched recess to its entrance, containing a panelled door and sidelight. Number 37 has a similar entrance, now fronted by a later conservatory. The interior of number 35 also retains original features, including reeded marble chimneypieces, cornices, plasterwork ceiling bands, an open string staircase with column newels and stick balusters.
