Description
The Abbey Church of St Benedict, located in Ealing, was built in 1897 by architects Frederick and Edward Walters and later extended by Stanley Kerr Bate after bombing, with the extension consecrated in 1962. This church is designed in the Perpendicular style and features a nine-bay nave with transepts and a choir located below the crossing. It has a single-storey aisled layout constructed from coursed squared rubble with ashlar dressings. The nave arcade is supported by compound piers, and there is a west gallery. The aisle windows are four-light and are flanked by stepped buttresses topped with a crenellated parapet. The roof is tiled. The west front includes three arched entrances beneath a large west window that has a 2:5:2 light arrangement, flanked by octagonal buttresses adorned with battlements and spirelets. A chequered gable features a Celtic cross finial. The post-war extension matches the original style of the church.
