Description

This is a long terrace of houses located in Balcombe Street, dating from approximately 1815 to 1820. They were built as part of the Portman Estate development, continuing a similar style to number 51. The houses are constructed of stock brick with plain stucco ground floors, and have concealed slate roofs. They are four storeys high with a basement. Each house front has three windows. The doorways are semicircular and centrally located, with similarly arched windows either side. Each doorway has a panelled door within pilaster jambs, a cornice head, and a fanlight above. The upper floors contain recessed sash windows with glazing bars, set within flat, gauged arches. A plat band runs above the ground floor. The houses have stone-coped parapets. Cast iron balconies with a geometric anthemion pattern run continuously along the first floor. Cast iron area railings with spearhead finials complete the façade.
