Description

This is a terrace of houses built around 1828 by S P Cockerell for the Trustees of the Bishop of London. The terrace comprises numbers 12 to 34 on the north side of Connaught Street in the City of Westminster. The buildings are two to three stories high and are constructed of brown brick, with the ground floors of numbers 12, 16, 18, and 30 finished in channelled stucco. The blocks each have two bays, with number 12 having three. Numbers 12, 16, and 18 feature round-arched entrances with fanlights, the fanlights incorporating patterned radial glazing. Number 30 has a simpler, plain fanlight. The later 19th and 20th century shop fronts have been altered, although number 24 retains a good shop front with triple arched lights supported by slender columns. The upper windows are largely sash windows with glazing bars, and iron balconies are present on the first-floor windows. A sill band is visible on the third floor of numbers 12 and 24 to 28. Basement railings with an urn finial are found at number 16.
