Description
No. 5 Connaught Street is a terraced house built around 1828-1830, forming part of George Gutch's Connaught Square development. The building is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and has a concealed slate roof. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and is two windows wide. The semicircular arched doorway to the loft features inset Greek Doric columns and a fanlight. The windows have recessed glazing bar sashes; the ground floor window is segmental arched and recessed for one order, while the upper floor windows are framed with stucco architraves. There is a stucco plat band above the ground floor, along with a crowning cornice and blocking course. A cast iron balcony with a geometric pattern is located on the first floor, and the area railings are made of cast iron with spearhead designs and urn finials. This house is part of the first phase of Tyburnia, which is associated with the Bishop of London's Estate.
