Description

This is a terrace of town houses built around 1789 as part of the Portman Estate development. Numbers 105 and 111 have facades that are replacements, built to resemble the originals. The buildings are constructed of yellow stock brick with decorative dressings made of Coade stone, and have slate roofs. The design is symmetrical and well-proportioned, with numbers 105 and 115 acting as slightly more prominent terminal pavilions. The terrace is four storeys high, including an attic storey, with dormered mansards at numbers 105, 111, and 113. Most fronts are three windows wide, except for number 111 which has four. Numbers 107, 109, and 115 retain their original entrances, featuring panelled doors, half columns, and ornate fanlights within semicircular arched openings. These openings are accentuated with Coade stone detailing, including vermiculated quoins, a guilloche impost, vermiculated spaced voussoirs, and mask keystones. The upper floors feature sash windows with glazing bars, set within flat, arched openings on the second and third floors. The first-floor windows are semicircular arched and recessed, creating an arcade effect through the use of a linking impost string and sill band. An anthemion ornamented band course runs above the second floor, and the building is topped with a mutule cornice and blocking course. Number 109 has a delicate cast iron balcony on its first floor. The terrace sits opposite and balances buildings at numbers 94 to 114 and 118 to 124 (even).
