Description
26 Dover Street is a late 18th-century terrace house constructed of stock brick with a slate roof. Originally three storeys high, it has since been modified to include an attic storey and a dormered slate mansard. The façade features three windows with revealed sashes that have renewed glazing bars, all set under flat gauged arches. A canted wooden bay window from around 1900 is located at the center of the first floor. There is an early 19th-century cast iron balcony on the first floor, and the ground floor windows have been reinstated along with area railings. The original doorway is round-arched and includes sidelights and a fanlight, framed by a panelled pilaster strip with spandrels and a keystone. Inside, the hall retains original plasterwork, including a cornice with guttae brackets and ceiling roses. The staircase features scrolled wrought iron balustrades, and the ceiling of the front room on the first floor showcases delicate Adam style plasterwork.
