Description

No 18 Albemarle Street is a house that has been converted into offices and a gallery. It dates from the early 18th century and has been altered over time. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick and features three bays across three storeys, plus two attic storeys. The ground floor has a modern plate glass shop window, while the upper floors have square-headed windows. The first-floor windows have French casements, and the second-floor windows are sash style, all featuring plate glass. There are blind boxes for the first-floor windows. A balcony with a Rococo-style balustrade from around 1900 is present on the first floor, along with matching area railings. A cornice is located above the second floor. At the rear, there is a substantial three-bay closet wing that retains the original secondary staircase of the house, which is a dog-leg design with turned balusters. The original main staircase also remains from the first floor, showcasing carved tread ends and some turned balusters. Additionally, there is a fine wrought iron staircase from the late 19th century that connects the ground to the first floor.
