Description

Nos 5A and 6 Dean's Yard are a pair of houses built around 1898-1900 by G.A. Hall. They are constructed of red brick with stone dressings and have slate roofs. The design is in the Free Style Jacobethan with notable Arts and Crafts detailing. The buildings are four storeys tall with a basement.

No. 5A features a two-window wide front and has a porch on the right side. The porch has a parapet wall supported by two short columns on the right and one on the left corner, carrying a stone entablature. The door is located to the left of the stone wall beneath the porch. No. 6 has a two-window front that projects from the right, with a doorway on the right side of the projection. This doorway is topped with a suspended cornice-hood and is accessed by steps that curve up between swept-out parapets with ball finials.

No. 5A includes a three-storey parapeted canted bay with flush stone mullion lights, topped by four floors of three-light casements above the porch. No. 6 features a three-storey, stone-dressed, flush mullion bow on its recessed wing, with five-light flush mullioned windows extending across each floor of the projection. Both houses have prominent flat eaves and dormered attics. There are area railings with Arts and Crafts detailing on the raised pavement, featuring ball finials, particularly on those of No. 6.
