Description
The Choir School and Dean's Yard, built around 1915 by G. Wallace, is a group of school buildings located in the City of Westminster. Constructed from red brick with stone dressings and a slate roof, the design reflects a Free Style Jacobethan style. The building features five storeys, a basement, and an attic storey that is partly open as a roofed playground.
The facade is 14 windows wide, with an 8-bay central range flanked by asymmetrical gabled bays, each containing three windows. The right-hand gabled section is slightly advanced and has a stone-faced basement and ground floor, featuring two adjoining doorways. The doorway on the right has an oriel window above it, while the left doorway is splayed with a curved cornice-arch and a coat of arms above. The windows are primarily two and three-light flush mullioned types, with those above the left entrance set in a stone-faced through-storey recess that extends to the top floor flat oriel.
The main range also has a stone-faced basement and ground floor, showcasing cross mullioned windows and two large oriel bays. The top floor is open as a playground loggia, which terminates on the left in a shallow gabled bay. The left-hand gabled section features a recessed right-hand bay, a recessed four-centred arch porch with a drip mould, and small stair lights above. To the left, there are large five-light flush mullioned and transomed windows. The building is finished with stone coped parapets and gables.
