Description

This house at 17 Hamilton Terrace is a circa 1830 building. It is constructed of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco dressings and a Welsh slate hipped roof. The property comprises two storeys and a basement, with three bays, and a recessed entrance bay on the right-hand side. The basement is stuccoed. A square stucco porch, accessed by railed steps, features a panelled door with a fanlight above. A decorative band runs along the ground floor. Elliptical-arched recesses with stucco impost blocks contain sash windows; an iron balcony is present. The upper windows are four-pane sashes. The roof overhangs, and a railed area is situated at basement level. A blue plaque commemorates Sir Joseph William Bazalgette (1819-1891), the civil engineer, who lived at the property.
