Description
No. 70 Wimpole Street is a terraced town house built in the 1770s as part of the Portland Estate development. It is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and features a slate roof. The building has four storeys, a dormered mansard, and a basement, with three windows across the front.
To the left, there is a semicircular arched doorway that has a vermiculated keystone, a panelled door, and Doric panelled pilaster jambs with a corniced doorhead and fanlight. The upper floors have recessed sash windows, which are set under rusticated stucco voussoir flat arches. A plat band runs above the ground floor, and there is a parapet with coping. The dormers are pedimented, and there is a cast iron balcony from around 1900 across the first floor, along with spear head finialed railings. The interior has not been inspected.
