Description
No 69 Wimpole Street is a terraced town house built in the 1770s as part of the Portland Estate development, with mid-19th century alterations to the front. The building is faced with stucco, featuring a ground floor that is channelled with alternating bands of vermiculation, and it has a slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and is two windows wide.
To the left is a square-headed doorway with a keystone, which includes a panelled door and a fanlight above. The ground floor has a tripartite sash window, while the upper floors feature recessed sash windows set in architrave surrounds. The first-floor windows have pulvinated friezes and cornices supported by consoles, while the windows above are adorned with eared architraves. A stucco balcony supported by ornamental brackets and featuring Victorian enriched scrolled ironwork balustrade is located on the first floor. There is a sill band at the second floor and a crowning cornice with a blocking course. The property is enclosed by cast iron spearhead area railings.
Inside, the house retains several original features, including a wrought iron balustraded stone staircase, some plasterwork, and marble chimneypieces.
