Description
No. 71 Wimpole Street is a terraced town house built in the 1770s as part of the Portland Estate development. It is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and has a slate roof. The building has four storeys and a dormered mansard above a basement, featuring two windows in width. To the left, there is a square-headed architraved doorway with a later 19th-century door and a plain fanlight. The upper floors have recessed sash windows under flat gauged arches. A plat band runs above the ground floor, and there is a moulded stucco string at the second floor, topped by a parapet with coping. The property is enclosed by wrought iron area railings with urn finials. Inside, some original features remain, including an iron balustered staircase, delicate plasterwork, and chimneypieces.
