Description
24 Wimpole Street is a terraced town house, built around 1770 as part of the Portland Estate development. The house is constructed of stock brick, with the ground floor finished in channelled stucco, and has a slate roof. It is four storeys high, plus a basement, and two windows wide. A square-headed doorway is located on the left-hand side, featuring a panelled door, side lights, and a fanlight above. The upper floors have recessed sash windows, each set within a flat gauged red brick arch. A plat band runs above the stucco ground floor. The building is topped with a parapet and coping. Cast iron area railings are topped with plumbed spike finials. The interior retains original features including a staircase with slender turned balusters, cornices, and good quality statuary marble chimneypieces in the ground floor and first floor front rooms.
