Description
This is a long terrace of houses located on the west side of Balcombe Street in Westminster, built around 1815 to 1820 as part of the Portman Estate development. The buildings are constructed of stock brick with channelled stucco to the ground floor, and have concealed slate roofs. There are four storeys plus a basement. Each house front is two windows wide. The doorways, located to the left of each front, have square heads, panelled doors set within pilaster jambs, and cornice heads over fanlights, most of which are patterned. The windows are recessed sash windows with glazing bars, set within flat, gauged brick arches; number 84 has stucco architraves to its windows. A plat band runs above the ground floor. The buildings have stone-coped parapets, with Nos. 66, 68, 80, 82 and 92 featuring crowning stucco cornices and blocking courses. Continuous cast iron balconies in an anthemion geometric pattern extend to the first floor. The property is further characterised by cast iron area railings with foliated spearhead finials.
