Description

TQ 2780 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER HYDE PARK, W2 77/2 14.1.70 W H Hudson Memorial (On the south west edge of the Bird Sanctuary east of the West Carriage Drive) - II Rectangular bas-relief panel and two formal pools. 1922. Stone panel sculpted by Epstein representing the character "Rima", from Hudson's novel "Green Mansions", as a female nude surrounded by birds forming a diagonally ascending composition. A narrow, long rectangular pool with stone flagged surround is placed immediately in front of the panel with a second and similar reflecting pool closer to the footpath. A noteworthy and "notorious" early work by Epstein.
