Description

No. 1 Hyde Park Street is an end-of-terrace town house, originally two properties, dating from approximately 1830 to 1840 and likely designed by George Gutch. It is part of the later Tyburnia development on the Bishop of London’s Estate, constructed after 1827.

The building is constructed of stucco with a slate roof and stands four storeys high, with a later sheer attic storey added. It is four windows wide, with two blind bays on the left-hand side. The return elevation to Bayswater Road is six windows wide. The central-right entrance is marked by a projecting porch with large, fluted paired columns in the Greek Doric style. The ground floor features recessed plate glass sash windows. The first-floor windows have cornices, while a stucco balustrade of a Doric column pattern runs along the first floor and extends over the porch. An entablature with a dentil cornice sits above the second floor. Heavy cast iron railings with spearheads are present.
