Description
The fountain at the west end of York House Gardens is a group of statuary that forms a three-tiered garden fountain situated in a lily pond. At the top level, there is a standing nude female figure flanked by two winged prancing steeds, who are being offered gifts by maidens emerging from shells. Below this, nymphs are depicted in various playful poses at the lower level. The entire group is framed at the back by four Doric columns topped with ball finials. The author of the statuary is unknown. In 1922, the statuary was acquired by Twickenham Borough Council along with Fork House from the estate of Sir Ratan Tata.
