Description

The footbridge over Regent's Canal, located to the west of the Cumberland footbridge in Regent's Park, dates from the mid-19th century. It is a single span, slightly cambered bridge made of cast iron girders. The spandrels feature a decorative pattern of iron circles that decrease in size. The bridge has an open parapet made of iron railings, which include square panels of decorative ironwork. It is supported by rusticated stone piers that are backed by brick abutments topped with stone coping. The main girders are inscribed with the manufacturer's name in raised lettering: R. Masefield & Co Founders, Manor Iron Works, Chelsea. The Regent's Canal was constructed between 1812 and 1820, overseen by James Morgan and supervised by John Nash.
