Description
No. 27 Queen’s Grove is a detached villa dating from circa 1830 to 1840, built as part of the Portland Estate development in St John's Wood. The villa is constructed of stucco with a slate roof and exhibits Italianate and Grecian architectural influences. It is two storeys high with a semi-basement. The facade is three windows wide, with a central Doric porch approached by steps. The windows are architraved, with margin glazing bars, and the ground floor windows are tripartite, featuring consoled cornices. Giant pilasters frame the outer bays, connected by shallow segmental arches featuring egg and dart moulding, beneath console-bracketed eaves of a hipped roof. Two later dormers have been added. The villa is flanked by corniced chimney stacks.
