Description
These are semi-detached villas located on Norfolk Road in St John’s Wood, dating from approximately 1830 to 1840 as part of the Portland Estate villa development. Number 12a was later rebuilt to resemble the original. The properties are constructed of stucco with a slate roof and are designed in an Italianate-Grecian style. They are two storeys high, with a basement level, and each has one window, accompanied by recessed entrance wings. The doorways have corniced architraves and are approached by steps. The windows are recessed sashes, tripartite on the ground floor, with consoled cornices. The front is articulated by large Corinthian pilasters which support a very shallow segmental arch over the window bays, beneath overhanging eaves supported by elaborate console brackets. The design is similar to other villas on the neighbouring Eyre Estate.
