Description
These are a pair of semi-detached villas located on Acacia Road in St John’s Wood, built around 1830 to 1840 as part of the Portland Estate villa development. They are constructed of stucco with a slate roof and exhibit an Italianate-Grecian architectural style. The houses are three storeys high, with a semi-basement level. Each villa is two windows wide. They feature architraved and consoled-corniced doorcases, approached by steps. The ground and first floors have recessed margin-glazed sashes, while the attic storey has glazing bar sashes, all within architraved surrounds with cornices and consoles to the ground floor. A Doric pilaster order rises from a plat band above the semi-basement to an entablature above the first floor, and continues as a pilastered attic storey with a frieze beneath the flat eaves of a hipped roof. Flanking corniced chimney stacks are present. Cast iron window guards with a geometric pattern are fitted to the ground floor windows. These villas are of a similar design to those on the adjoining Eyre Estate.
