36 And 37, Acacia Road Nw8

Nos. 36 and 37 Acacia Road are semi-detached villas built around 1830-1840 as part of the Portland Estate St John's Wood villa development. They are designed in an Italianate-Grecian style and constructed of stucco with a slate roof. The buildings rise three storeys with a semi-basement and each villa features two windows across the front.

Both have recessed, two-storey, one-window entrance wings, with the entrance of No. 37 extending to full height. The doorways are pilastered, although No. 37 has been altered with a built-out porch. The first and second floors have recessed sash windows with architraved surrounds, while the ground floor windows are more elaborate, featuring panelled pilasters, scrolled friezes, pediments, and cast iron geometric window guards. The main block has rusticated quoins and a frieze below the flat eaves of the hipped roof, which includes later dormers. The buildings also have corniced chimney stacks. This villa type is similar to those found in the adjoining Eyre Estate.
