Description
44 and 45 Acacia Road are a pair of semi-detached villas dating from approximately 1830 to 1840, built as part of the Portland Estate development in St John's Wood. They are constructed of stucco with a slate roof and exhibit Italianate-Grecian architectural influences. The houses are arranged over two storeys, with a semi-basement level. Each villa is approximately two windows wide, featuring recessed entrance bays and a central party wall recess. They have pilastered porches accessed by steps. The ground and first floors have recessed, margin glazed sash windows within architrave surrounds. There are also glazing bar sashes beneath the eaves. Sill bands are present on each floor, topped by a cornice over the first floor. The roof is hipped with flat, bracketed eaves, flanked by corniced chimney stacks. Cast iron geometric window guards protect the ground floor windows. The architectural style is comparable to similar villas on the adjacent Eyre Estate.
