Description
No. 22 Acacia Road is a detached villa built around 1830-1840 as part of the Portland Estate St John's Wood villa development. The building is constructed of stucco with a channelled basement and features a slate roof. It showcases an Italianate-Grecian style and consists of two storeys above a semi-basement, with a width of four windows. There is a flight of steps to the left leading up to a square console-corniced and architraved doorway, which has a panelled door and a margin glazed fanlight. The ground floor windows are recessed margin glazed sashes set in moulded architraves, with cornices on consoles. The villa is adorned with Doric order pilasters that rise from the semi-basement to a frieze beneath the flat eaves of the low pitched hipped roof, which is flanked by corniced chimney stacks. The windows also have cast iron geometric patterned guards. This villa type is similar to the adjoining Eyre Estate.
