Description
Nos. 23 and 24 Norfolk Road are a pair of semi-detached villas dating from around 1830, built as part of the Portland Estate development in St John’s Wood. They are of similar design to Nos. 19 to 22, and are constructed of stock brick with stucco dressings, topped with a slate roof. The architectural style is Italianate-Grecian. The houses are two storeys high with a basement. Each has four windows across the front, with doorways in the outer bays, approached by steps. The panelled doors are topped with fanlights and architraves, which have cornices supported on console-brackets. The windows are recessed sash windows, tripartite on the ground floor, and are set within architraves with consoled cornices. The overhanging eaves are supported by shaped consoles on a low-pitched hipped roof, and the houses feature central chimney stacks. They are of a similar villa type to those on the adjoining Eyre Estate.
