Description

Nos. 19 and 20 Norfolk Road are a pair of semi-detached villas dating from around 1830, built as part of the Portland Estate development in the St John’s Wood area. The buildings are constructed of stucco with a slate roof and display Italianate-Grecian architectural features. They are two storeys high, with a basement level, and four windows wide overall. Each villa has doorways within the outer bays, incorporating fanlights with pediments supported by console brackets. The windows are recessed sash windows, with architrave surrounds; those on the ground floor are tripartite and have cornices resting on console brackets. A plat band runs above the basement level. The overhanging eaves are supported by shaped console brackets to the low-pitch hipped roof, and are flanked by corniced chimney stacks. No. 19 features a cast iron balcony with a palmette and geometric pattern on the first floor. The design is similar to villas within the adjoining Eyre Estate.
