Description
No. 45 Hay's Mews is a mews house dating from around 1744 to 1750, designed by Flitcroft. It is constructed of brown brick and has two storeys, topped with a parapet that features coping. The building has five windows, which are revealed glazing bar sashes set beneath flat gauged arches. The entrance consists of a plain doorway. The heavy cast iron area railings are adorned with flambé finials. The garden elevation is similar but includes a cornice below the parapet and a return corridor wing that has a central break. Inside, the property retains a large, largely unaltered kitchen from the late 18th century to early 19th century located in the basement, which extends up to the first floor. This kitchen is equipped with a range, ovens, spits, and various ancillary fittings.
