Description
No 44 Hay's Mews is a building that was originally a coach house for No 44 Berkeley Square, constructed around 1744 by William Kent. It features a "polite" front facing the garden of Berkeley Square. The building is made of brown brick and has a slate roof, standing two storeys tall. The street front has been altered, but it still shows revealed sash windows beneath gauged arches. The most notable aspect is the east elevation, which has five windows and a projecting central section with three windows topped by a pediment. It includes a modillion cornice and a blocking course, as well as a stucco plat band decorated with rosettes at the first-floor level. The windows are revealed glazing bar sashes set under flat gauged brick arches, and there is a central doorway located within a blind arch.
