Description

1 and 3 Hill Street are a pair of terrace houses dating to circa 1748, with early 19th-century additions and alterations. They are built of blackened brick with a slate roof and extend over four storeys, including basements and dormered mansards. Each house has three windows. The ground floors are faced with channelled stucco. A stucco dentil cornice runs along the top of the building, below a blocking course. The windows are revealed sash windows with gauged flat arches. There are Doric columned porches on pedestals in a coupled order to the left of number 1. Number 1 has a round-headed doorway with panelled pilaster strips and elongated reeded consoles to the cornice above. Number 3 has a square-headed doorway with an architrave. A continuous wrought iron balcony runs along the first floor. Cast iron area railings with urn finials are present at street level. The interiors retain simple moulded doorcases and cornices, along with cut string staircases featuring wrought iron balustrades.
