Description

No. 20 Warwick Street is a commercial building constructed between 1906 and 1907 by architect J. W. Randall Vining. It features an ashlar-faced gabled front and a slate roof, showcasing a well-detailed Arts and Crafts Free Style design. The building stands four storeys tall with a gabled attic.

Above the shop front, which has a moulded frame with a shop window and a door set back beneath a projecting stone modillion cornice, there is a single bay. Each of the three main upper floors has a shallow bow with four lights, separated by plain dividers and fitted with metal casements. This bow is recessed between splay-sided quoin piers, which support large scrolled console-brackets at the top. These brackets hold up a flat soffited stone balcony for the attic, with a parapet that sweeps between the dies.

The gable features a three-light window, with the center light being semicircular arched and stone hooded, topped with a cornice label. The gable also includes a saddlestone and kneeler dies. The quoin piers are adorned with finely wrought iron rainwater heads and decorative work on the down pipes.
