Description

CITY OF WESTMINSTER GOLDEN SQUARE Wl TO 2980 NW 70/46 No 23 14.1.70 GV II Terrace house. 1684. Stock brick and red rubbed brick dressings, slate roof. 4 storeys (the top floor an early addition), basement and wide dormered attic. 3 windows wide. Late C18 doorway to right, semicircular arched with 6 panel door and radial patterned fanlight. Late C19/early C20 display window inserted to rest of ground floor. Upper floors have slightly recessed late C18 sashes, those on 2nd and 3rd floors retaining glazing bars, under flat rubbed brickga##ed arches and with rubbed dressings, stone sills. Rubbed brick plat bands and moulded brick cornice below parapet. Wrought iron area railings. Interior considerably altered but retains panelled stairwell and dog leg carved and cut string staircase, turned balusters, moulded handrail, fluted Doric column newels. One of the very few original houses in the square. Survey of London; vol XXXI
