Description
Nos 4 and 4A on Lower John Street is a terrace house built around 1685, with some alterations. The building is faced with stucco over brick and has a slate roof. It stands four storeys high, with a parapet and coping, and features three windows across the front. The mid-Victorian shop front includes a fascia and cornice, along with a panelled and glazed door. The upper floors display vertical and horizontal bands, likely tying the original brickwork of the front, and have casement windows set in nearly flush frames. Inside, original or early 18th-century features include simple panelling on the first floor and a semi-spiral staircase in square compartments, along with cornices and other details.
