Description

No. 15 Soho Square is a terrace house built around 1677-1680, making it one of the two remaining original houses in the square. The building features stock brick construction and a slate roof, standing four storeys tall with a basement, although the top floor is a later addition. It has three windows across its facade. The ground floor is stuccoed, with a doorway on the right that has a panelled door and a rectangular fanlight in a plain surround with a cornice. The ground floor also has flush framed sash windows with intact glazing bars. The upper floors feature flush framed sash windows with glazing bars intact on the first floor, set beneath flat gauged red brick arches. The exterior includes moulded brick plat bands and a parapet with coping.

Inside, the house has a traditional layout with a passage hall and a closet wing. It retains original features such as hall panelling and a panelled jamb archway leading to the stair compartment, which contains a substantial closed string staircase with vase-shaped turned balusters, a heavy moulded handrail, and a plain newel post. The ground floor rear room has bolection moulded panelling, while the first floor rear room features a plain marble fireplace from the early 18th century. The front room has a slightly later chimney piece with marble slips and an eared architrave, along with heavy box cornices.
