Gates, piers, balustrades surrounding Buckingham Palace rondpoint and retaining wall with fountain above west end of St James's Park. 1901-11 by Sir Aston Webb as part of the Victoria Memorial - Mall scheme completing the setting for Buckingham Palace. Portland stone and ornamental ironwork. Beaux Arts inspired Imperial classicism. Tall panelled gate piers with armorial badges or trophies, either surmounted by trophy-sculptural groups on the main axis or by gilded, Rococo, candelabra lanterns; the ironwork of gates of Louis XV/Louis XVI derivation; the retaining wall to St James's Park rusticated with buttress-piers and overflow fountain down to lake.
