The Queen Victoria Memorial Gates, gatepiers, balustrades, steps, and retaining wall with fountain are located at the west end of The Mall in Westminster. Designed by Sir Aston Webb between 1901 and 1911, these features are part of the Victoria Memorial - Mall scheme that enhances the setting for Buckingham Palace. Constructed from Portland stone and ornamental ironwork, the design reflects Beaux Arts inspired Imperial classicism. The tall, panelled gate piers are adorned with armorial badges or trophies, topped either by trophy-sculptural groups along the main axis or by gilded Rococo candelabra lanterns. The gates feature ironwork influenced by Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. The retaining wall facing St James's Park is rusticated, with buttress-piers and an overflow fountain that flows down to the lake.
