Description
Stornaway House is a town mansion built between 1794 and 1796 by Samuel Wyatt, with alterations made in the early 19th century and a complete internal rebuild in 1958-59. The building is finished in stucco and has a slate roof, standing three storeys tall with a basement and dormered attics.
The facade facing Cleveland Row features seven windows arranged in a pattern of four and three, with the three bays closest to Green Park slightly projecting and topped with a pediment. The ground floor showcases banded rustication, and the entrance, located in a recessed section, has an arched and coved design with a radial glazed semicircular fanlight and double panelled doors. The square-headed sash windows, which do not have glazing bars, are present on all floors, with those on the first floor adorned with pediments.
The Park elevation includes a broad bow with three sash windows on each floor, and there are cornices at both the first and second floor levels, along with a main modillion cornice and a balustraded parapet. A cast iron balcony is featured on the first floor of the bow facing the park.
