Description
Apartment 5 at St James' Palace is a Grade I listed building that was originally part of the palace stables, constructed in 1661 and later altered by architect Nicholas Hawksmoor between 1716 and 1717. The building features a brown brick exterior with red brick dressings and has leaded and slated roofs. It is two storeys high, having been heightened in the early 19th century, and is 12 bays wide. The ground floor includes an arcade added by Hawksmoor, which features three semicircular arched windows at the west end. The first-floor windows are set within semicircular arched panels. The end bays of the front are accentuated as square turrets topped with concave-pyramid leaded cupolas. The building has a parapet with stone coping and a string course at the first floor.
