TQ 2980 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER STABLE YARD SW1 81/120 Apartment 5, St James' 5.2.70 Palace GV I Built as part of the Palace stables, now a "Grace and Favour" residence. 1661, altered by Hawksmoor 1716-17. Brown brick with red brick dressings. Leaded and slated roofs. 2 storeys (heightened early C19). 12 bays wide. Ground floor arcade added by Hawksmoor with 3 semicircular arched windows at the west end; 1st floor windows set in semicircular arched panels. End bays of front emphasised as square turrets with concave-pyramid leaded cupolas. Parapet with stone coping; 1st floor string course. History of the King's Works Hawksmoor; Kerry Downes
