Description

This is a row of four terraced townhouses at numbers 24 to 28 York Street, constructed around 1810 to 1820 as part of the Portman Estate development, which was linked to Baker Street and Gloucester Place. The buildings are of brick, with concealed slate roofs. They stand four storeys high, with basements, and each has a three-window front. A semicircular arched doorway is located on the right-hand side, with a panelled door and fanlight above. The windows are recessed sash windows, set beneath flat, gauged arches. A stucco cornice, decorated with modillions, runs along the top of the building, finished with a blocking course. Wrought iron balconettes, with a trellis pattern, are positioned in front of the first-floor windows. Cast iron area railings, topped with urn finials, run along the front.
