Description
The Savile Club consists of two houses that were originally built in the mid-19th century and later reconstructed to form one mansion. Number 69 was remodelled and Number 71 was rebuilt by G. R. Trollope in 1880 and 1891. The exterior is made of stuccoed brick and features four storeys with a total of eight window bays, along with basements and slated mansard attics.
The ground floor of Number 69 showcases banded rustication and vermiculated quoins, with an enclosed Doric columned porch on the left and a balustrade. The ground floor windows are segmental arched, while the rest are flat arched with simple moulded surrounds. A main cornice and blocking course complete the design. Number 71 also has banded rustication on the ground floor, and its first floor features a broad rectangular bay window on brackets that lights the ballroom. Both this bay window and the ground floor window have "Louis XV" waved glazing bars. The upper floor windows are adorned with eared architraves and aprons, and the cornice continues the style of Number 69.
The interior was lavishly redecorated in the "Louis XV" style between 1890 and 1891 by W. O. Bowens van den Boyer from Paris, possibly incorporating some reset elements of boiseries.
