Description
No 66, known as the Grosvenor Estate Office, is a terraced town house built around 1725-1730 by Edward Shepherd. It features a brown brick exterior with a stuccoed basement and ground floor. The building has three storeys, a basement, and an attic, with four windows on the upper floors. Channelled giant stucco pilasters frame the upper levels, and a stucco cornice projects over the tops of the pilasters. The entrance is a pilastered doorway accessed by a flight of steps, with consoles supporting the cornice above. The ground floor windows have architraves and cornices. Inside, the house boasts exceptional plasterwork in the style of Edward and John Shepherd, including a grand front staircase compartment. Originally, No 66 extended along Davies Street but was shortened in the 1820s-1830s when No 53 was constructed, featuring a fine Greek revival facade by Thomas Cundy II. However, No 66 still retains a saloon and plasterwork that reflect its earlier use as a wing of the original building.
