Description
No. 34 Shelton Street, including No. 21 Neal Street, is a Grade II listed warehouse built in the early 19th century, originally part of a brewery complex. The building is constructed from stock brick with a stucco ground floor and features a slate roof. It stands four storeys high and is five windows wide, with a two-storey, two-window wide wagon entrance extension on the west side and a four-window return to Neal Street.
The ground floor has rusticated quoins and includes a deep-linted wagon entrance to the yard on the right, along with altered ground floor openings under lintels. The upper floors are adorned with recessed glazing bar sash windows set beneath flat gauged arches, with the central bay featuring tripartite sashes. A main stone cornice with console brackets sits above the second floor, topped by a crowning cornice and blocking course. The building displays similar architectural details on the return and courtyard elevations. This structure is a rare example of warehousing from this period and quality, especially considering the demolitions that have occurred in Docklands, and it relates to nearby Langley Street and Neal Street.
