Description
Nos 7 and 8 Langley Street is an early 19th-century warehouse that was originally part of a brewery complex. The building is constructed of yellow stock brick and features a slate roof. It has four main storeys and is five bays wide, including two hoist bays. The ground floor has been altered in the 20th century with new doorways but retains segmental arched windows with attractive cast iron grills. The first and second floors also have segmental arched windows set within semicircular arched recesses. There are wooden projecting hoist-hoods on the third attic floor. A brick plat band runs above the ground floor, and there is a main brick entablature over the second floor, topped with a stucco cornice and blocking course at the attic level. The rear elevation, facing the former brewery yard, is symmetrical and three windows wide, with a ground floor entrance featuring cast iron Greek Doric columns that support a cast iron lintel. The windows from the first to the third floors are set in semicircular arched recesses. This building is a rare example of warehousing of this quality and date, especially given the demolition of similar structures in Dockland.
