Description

Warehouse, early 19th century, originally part of a brewery complex. The building is constructed of stock brick with a slate roof. It is four storeys high and six bays wide. Ground floor openings were altered in the mid- and later 20th century. Upper floor windows have gauged yellow brick arches set in a giant arcade; the first-floor windows are segmental arched, those of the third floor are semicircular arched and concentric with the arcading. The second and third-floor windows are combined as a single opening. A plat band and parapet with coping are present. The interior has cast iron columns on each floor, featuring necking and flange brackets to the caps, with the top-floor columns supporting timber roof trusses. A similar rear courtyard elevation exists. This represents a rare survival of warehousing of this date and quality, largely due to demolitions in Docklands. It is comparable in style to buildings on Langley Street and Shelton Street.
