Description
The Nag's Head Public House is a corner public house and shop located on James Street in the City of Westminster, built around 1900 by architect P.E. Pilditch. The building is constructed of red brick with terracotta dressings and features a slate roof in the Jacobethan style, highlighted by a corner tourelle. It stands three storeys tall with a half dormer attic and has three windows on the main facade, with the tourelle and a four-window return facing Floral Street.
The ground floor includes an open shop front at number 10A and a public house entrance at the corner, which is complemented by a secondary entrance at the end of the Floral Street front. This area is articulated by polished granite pilasters that support an entablature. The upper floors feature three-light mullioned sash windows with terracotta dressings, while the tourelle is adorned with mullioned and transomed windows, also with terracotta details and elaborate ornamentation on the aprons. A terracotta entablature runs over the first floor and wraps around the tourelle. Short sections of parapet connect the pedimented half dormers, with the tourelle rising higher, topped with an ogee-capped dome.
