Description
A terrace of town houses at 94 to 104 Gloucester Place, London, built around 1800 as part of the Portman Estate development. The houses are constructed of stock brick with stucco, featuring banded details and block rustication on the ground floors. They have slate roofs largely hidden behind dormered mansards. The terrace comprises 4 storeys and basements, with each house having a three-window front.
Most of the doorways have a semicircular arched form, with the exception of the entrance to number 94. These doorways feature panelled doors with side lights and inset columns or jamb pilasters, along with Coade stone imposts and delicately patterned fanlights adorned with lead ornament. The upper floors have recessed sash windows set under flat, gauged arches. A plat band runs above the ground floor stucco, and there are stucco crowning cornices and blocking courses at the top. Original cast iron balconies, displaying geometric, Gothick, and anthemion patterns, are found on the first floor. Cast iron area railings with urn finials complete the exterior. The terrace forms part of a remarkably complete and extensive sequence of Georgian town houses in London.
