Description

30 St George Street is a Grade II listed terrace town house built in the early 18th century, around 1717 to 1720. The building features a brown brick exterior with stone dressings and a slate roof, rising four storeys and comprising four windows across its front. The rusticated stone doorway, located to the left of the centre, is topped with a cornice. The windows have projecting stone surrounds, with camber heads on the first floor, and are vertically linked by rusticated aprons from the ground to the second floors. The top attic storey has slightly cambered heads to its stone surrounds, and the sashes have later 19th-century glazing. The building also has rusticated brick and stone quoin piers that rise to a main dentil cornice at the third floor level, which projects forward over the piers. The attic storey features panelled quoin piers and an entablature with a blocking course. There is an additional side entrance to the left, which has a rusticated surround and cornice.

The interior has been much altered but still retains some features in the first-floor front rooms, including cornices, shutters, and doorcases. This house is part of Lord Searborough's Hanover Square development, which introduced a German-Hanoverian facade style and a Baroque plan to the layout of the scheme.
